Union minister Sanjeev Baliyan has visited the district jail and met some of the accused of the 2013 riots here, officials today said.

The Union Minister of State for Agriculture visited the district jail yesterday and met the inmates, who are accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, a senior official of the jail said.

Balyan is believed to have discussed the problems of them during the one hour he spent at the jail.

A local court on November 24 had issued fresh bailable warrants against Baliyan, BJP MP Bhartendra Singh, party MLA Suresh Rana and VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi for failing to appear before it in connection with the 2013 riots case.

They are facing charges under various sections of IPC for violating prohibitory orders, deterring public servants from discharging their duties and also that of wrongful restraint.
