Union minister of state for Social Justice and Women Empowerment Vijay Sampla today alleged that police was harassing his supporters "since long" at the behest of 'somebody', declaring he would tackle it on his own if such activities are not stopped.

Sampla alleged that "cooked-up" cases were being registered against his supporters at the behest of some local leader(s).

However he did not name anybody.

Sampla BJP MP from Hoshiarpur was addressing reporters after a case was registered yesterday by the local police against his close associate Avtar Singh Mand, a former Zila Parishd member.

The case was registered against Mand after alleged vandalisation of a house at his native village Mehtan on Friday night.

Sampla also held a closed door meeting with Phagwara SP Ashwani Kumar and other officials in local PWD Rest House.

He asked officials not to register false cases against his supporters.

He warned that in case his supporters were harassed and implicated in false cases at the behest of somebody, he would then tackle such matters "in his own way".

However, he did not spell out as to what would be that way.

The case against Mand and others was registered under Sections 452 (house tresspass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 447 (punishment for criminal trespass) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
