Union Minister E Ahamed will be back in the fray in Malappuram Lok Sabha seat as contestant of the Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest partner of the Congress-led UDF in Kerala.

Party's sitting M P E T Muhammad Basheer has been re-nominated for the adjoining Ponnani seat.

The decision was taken by the IUML's secretariat meeting and it was announced by party state president Panakkad Hyderali

Shihab Thangal.

Though a section in the party had lobbied against Ahamed, the leadership arrived at the conclusion that his candidature was inevitable in view of his vast experience in Parliament and national standing.

Ahamed, national president of the party, is contesting to the Lok Sabha for the sixth consecutive time.
