Bibhu Mohapatra, the designer whose outfits have been worn by US First Lady Michelle Obama to Hollywood celebrities like Lupita Nyong'o, believes Indian fashion is on the cusp of making it big internationally.
The Orissa-born designer is a name to reckon with in the New York fashion scene and his eponymous brand is a big hit with celebrities both in India and Hollywood.
"There is some really amazing work coming from India, some very unique voices. I think with the right platform, these voices can be heard and they are getting some exposure," Bibhu told PTI.

"India is getting a lot of play in the market. The word is getting out. For this to happen, something has to change in the infrastructure of fashion as a business. It has to align with international market. But it is changing and that's going to happen sooner," he said.
Bibhu's own journey of becoming one of the most recognised fashion designers in the international arena is nothing but inspirational.
He attributes his success to a lot of hard work and a bit of luck.
"I am just one fortunate guy. I have the support of amazing people, who like to wear my clothes and respond to my creativity in whatever way they can. I know that I work hard and I am very focused and luck has a lot to do with that."
The designer, 43, was in India recently to launch his first ever fine jewellery collection that he crafted in association with Forevermark diamonds.
Bibhu said he always had a passion for creating fine jewellery but wanted something that was unique without being too exclusive.
"The passion was always there. I wanted to enter this world of fine jewellery. You can dream about it but you have to also wait for the right moment, which came with Forevermark.
"We wanted to create a collection that was not just unique but accessible as well. We have come up with a line that has beautiful and highly designed diamonds but at the same time they are affordable," he said.
