Yet another unnatural death of a Ravenshaw University girl within a week has caused flutter as conflicting factors are stated to be behind the deaths.

Police said the undergraduate student, who was retrieved from a pool of blood near a multi-storeyed shopping mall in the city on Tuesday night, died at the S C B Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday.

Last week, the body of another undergraduate girl was retrieved from near railway tracks on the outskirts of the city and police claim poisonous substances were found from her bag and a suicide note was also seized from her hostel room.

The girl apparently had fallen from the third floor of the shopping mall either accidentally or was pushed by someone from behind. Suicide angle also cannot be ruled out, eyewitnesses said.

"We are investigating the incident, which occurred under Dargha Bazaar police station on Tuesday night, after registering a unnatural death (UD) case," said Cuttack DCP S Praveen Kumar.

Refuting the suicide angle, the girl's mother claimed that her daughter was pushed from behind by someone. "She was very innocent and she cannot commit suicide," said the victim's mother.
