The collection of 3,780 photographs by Milton H Greene, which had been stored for over a decade, was transferred to the Polish government in 1995 as part of a settlement in an embezzlement case involving a US businessman.
The exhibition titled 'Marilyn Monroe's Hollywood' shows only 60 photographs, taking up a few rooms of the Association's gallery in Warsaw's old town, and will be on display until the whole collection is sold at an open auction, the Daily Mail reported.
"This exhibition is the result of amazing different coincidences. Sometimes they were difficult, but they led Marilyn Monroe to Poland, so for us it's a happy end.
"We are happy that we will be able to show the pictures to the public before they are sold," said Jolanta Rycerska, head of the Warsaw chapter of the Association of Polish Artists and Photographers.
Rycerska said there was high interest in the photographs which go for auction after a month.
The pictures include Monroe's portraits. Monroe died from an apparent drug overdose at her Brentwood home on August 05, 1962 at the age of 36. She would have turned 86 this June.
