Bakar lost the opening set but recovered well to win the next two to pull through at 2-6 6-1 6-3 and booked a place in the last eight along with the top seeded Tamil Nadu boy Akshay I B.

Akshay made a bright start by comfortably winning the opening set against Karnataka's 14th seed Nikshep B R before going off the boil in the second, which he lost.

However, the Tamil Nadu boy came back strongly to win the decider without dropping a game to clinch the pre-quarter final encounter 6-4 4-6 6-0 at the club's courts.

Under 16 girls' top seed Kamran Kaur of Delhi also had to come through a tough encounter before entering the quarter-finals.

The all-Delhi girls' pre-quarter final contest between top seed Kamran and 14th seed Jahnvi Gupta was also a closely fought affair with the former pulling off a three-set victory.

The top seed was on a roll as she easily pocketed the first set, but later encountered a stiff challenge from Jahnvi, who went on to win the second and level the scores.

Kamran got back into the groove and won the third and closed out the match at 6-2 6-7(5) 6-4. (More)
