UP: 3 committees to review relief distribution to farmers

Amid reports of suicide by farmers due to crop loss, the Uttar Pradesh government today constituted three teams to review the reasons behind these deaths, an official spokesman said here.

"To review distribution of relief to persons affected by unprecedented rain and hailstorm and reasons behind deaths of farmers, Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan has constituted division wise three teams headed by senior officers," he said.

Ranjan has directed the senior officers to reach their areas immediately, undertake extensive visit, review and submit their report to him at the earliest.

For Jhansi and Chitrakoot division, he has constituted a team chaired by Agriculture Production Commission in which secretary revenue and director agriculture have been nominated as members.
 

For Agra division, a committee chaired by Principal Secretary Revenue has been formed in which special secretary agriculture and special secretary horticulture have been nominated.

The spokesman said that for Kanpur and Bareilly dvisions a committee chaired by Principal Secretary Agriculture with special secretary revenue and director horticulture has been constituted.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has directed the chief secretary to conduct district wise review of relief amount distributed to the farmers and submit an updated report by tomorrow evening.

It should be mentioned in which district relief work was distributed properly and where laxity was committed, he has directed.

The spokesman said that to provide relief to the farmers affected by excessive rains and hailstorm Rs 500 crore had been released so far on the directives of the chief minister.
