The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly today passed a resolution for income tax exemption on all emoluments of the legislators, similar to the one enjoyed by members of the Parliament.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, BJP's Radhamohan Das Agarwal said that though the Members of Parliament get income tax exemption on their wages and other allowances, the members of the state legislature are deprived of this benefit though both are people's representatives and do similar work.

UP Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan moved a resolution for sending the demand to the central government with the consent of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, which was passed by voice vote.

The Assembly was today adjourned sine die after a brief monsoon session which started on August 14.
