Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya today alleged that "politics of appeasement" pursued by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was responsible for the communal tension in West Bengal.
He also questioned Mamata's outbursts against Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi.
"What is happening in West Bengal is a consequence of the politics of appeasement of a community as practised by Mamta Banerjee. Finding herself incapable of bringing law and order under control, Banerjee has come up with a diatribe against Tripathi, who is performing his constitutional duties as the state's Governor," Maurya told reporters here.

The Deputy CM was responding to queries about the situation in West Bengal, where a riot has been sparked off by communally sensitive posts on the social media.
Banerjee had alleged that during a telephonic discussion about the communal tension last night, she was "threatened and humiliated" by Tripathi.
"Perhaps Banerjee is nervous over the fact that her Trinamool Congress is rapidly losing ground though it is her second consecutive term as the West Bengal CM. She is jittery over the prospect of the BJP forming the next government in the state", Maurya, who is also the president of the BJP's UP unit, said.
Similar views were expressed by UP Health minister Siddharth Nath Singh.
"Banerjee's conduct shows that she is an autocrat who does not believe in the federal structure. She has a problem with Governor Tripathi issuing instructions for maintaining peace and communal harmony. She ought to know that according to the Constitution, the Governor has every right to issue such advice," Singh said.
