Two days after an alleged tussle with the forest department staff over alleged "extortion", BJP MLA Surendra Singh today began his fast-unto-death, demanding their suspension.

Talking to media, Singh said his fast will continue till the suspension of the "corrupt staff". I have informed the chief minister's office and the BJP president's office about the incident, he said.

The MLA alleged that he saw the forest staff "extorting money from a man in tractor".

Earlier, the district administration had received a complaint from the forest department staff who alleged that they were "thrashed" by the MLA and his men on Thursday night when they were on duty at the Chiraiya turn.

Forest sub-inspector Santosh Kumar Gaur and driver Raghupati Ram had in their written complaint alleged that they were on duty when the MLA and his men "abused and thrashed" them in which Gaur sustained a fracture in one of his legs, SP Anil Kumar said.

They also alleged that the MLA's men snatched a gold chain and issued life threats to them, he said.

Both sides have given complaints for filing of FIRs, Kumar said, adding that probe has been ordered into the matter, following which necessary action will be initiated.

The forest department staff have demanded action against the MLA, failing which they have threatened to launch an agitation.
