The SAP announced yesterday was inadequate for the cane farmers as it favours the sugar mill owners, BKU president Naresh Tikait.

"We demand a division wise revision of SAP, and it should be hiked to benefit the cane growers," he said.

SAP is the price below which mills cannot buy cane from farmers.

The state government announced the SAP, after continued attacks by the opposition parties both in and out of the assembly, fixing it at Rs 290 per quintal for early variety crop, Rs 280 per quintal for normal variety and Rs 275 per quintal for sub standard cane.
