The chief metropolitan magistrate (CMM) today remanded 10 accused, including a prominent builder, in one-day police custody in connection with the seizure of nearly Rs 97 crore in demonetised notes.

CMM Shabistan Aquil allowed only a day's police custody rejecting the police's plea for seven-day remand, and directed the police to produce all the accused before the court at 5 pm tomorrow.

The accused, including noted builder Anand Khatri, were arrested in connection with the seizure of nearly Rs 97 crore in demonetised currency notes from the builder's ancestral house in Swaroop Nagar on January 16 last.

Meanwhile, a group of lawyers smeared black ink on the builder's face and assaulted some of the accused when they were brought to the court today.
