Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday inaugurated Munderwa sugar mill and laid foundation stone of 49 projects worth Rs 116 crore in Basti.
"The leaders of previous governments filled their pockets and did not redress issues of people. People here used to say that Munderwa sugar mill and Gorakhpur fertiliser plant will never reopen but we proved that Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai (Modi makes it possible)," the chief minister said.
The new sugar mill has capacity of 5,000 TDC (tonnes of cane crushing per day) and can produce 27 MW electricity.
"Unused electricity will be sold, from which mill will get Rs 30 crore income," he said.
"Munderwa sugar mill closed 20 years ago and in farmers protest, three of them sacrificed their lives. SP, BSP and Congress governments closed the sugar mills in the state. Only in Purvanchal, 12 sugar mills were closed. For SP, BSP and Congress party, people were mere vote bank and they divided the society in the name of caste.
"Those sugar mills which will make payments to farmers will be promoted by us but, those which will not make payments will be attached," Adityanath said.
