Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav who plans to contest the coming Assembly elections in the state on the plank of development, today laid the foundation of Purvanchal expressway project connecting Lucknow to Ghazipur.

In the second supplementary budget worth Rs 1683 crores passed by the UP Assembly today, the government has made a provision of Rs 1000 crores for the Purvanchal expressway.

The chief minister said Purvanchal expressway will connect Ghazipur with Lucknow and will go upto Ballia.

"With this expressway, the eastern districts of the state will get linked with New Delhi via Yamuna expressway and it will become the longest expressway in the country," he said.
