Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today issued orders to officials of various departments to start preparations for the Allahabad Ardh Kumbh in 2019.

"Pilgrims in large number visit Sangam to take a holy dip. Hence, efforts should be made to make Ganga pollution-free and ensure that pilgrims do not face any problems. He also said it is essential that purity of Ganga-Yamuna is maintained, as 12 crore pilgrims are expected to visit the 2019 Ardh Kumbh," the Chief Minister said.

He said in order to make Ganga pollution-free, the leather units operating in Kanpur and Kannauj must be shifted in a phased manner.

Adityanath also informed that in UP, effluents from drains and various industries flow into the Ganga, which pollutes the river.

"Efforts have to be made to ensure that polluted water does not reach Ganga, so that its every drop is pious and its stream remains free-flowing," the UP Chief Minister said.
