UP CM pulls up state forest officials on Kanpur zoo incident

Yadav also directed Principal Secretary (Forests) V N Garg to take Principal Chief Conservator of forest J S Asthana and forest Conservator Varanasi R Hemant Kumar to the scene of the incident and submit a detailed report before him.

The Chief Minister instructed that a vet be included in the probe.

Yadav also ordered a review of all zoos in the state and to make adequate security arrangements.

He has already ordered the suspension of the zoo director and six other employees responsible for the incident with immediate effect.

Yadav has also ordered the Kanpur district administration and the municipal corporation officers to make adequate arrangements to protect people from stray dogs.

 

Thirty-one endangered blackbucks were found killed by dogs in the zoo yesterday.

Out of the 38 blackbucks inside the enclosure, only seven had survived.

Blackbucks are native to the Indian subcontinent and have been classified as near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
