Taking a strong view of an incident where a farmer was made to drink urine at a police station in Lalitpur district of UP, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today ordered the suspension of two police officers and the transfer of a superintendent.

The police chowki in-charge, Vijay Singh Chouhan and the concerned circle officer have been suspended while the SP Vijay Yadav has been suspended and attached to the DGP headquarters in Lucknow, according to an official statement.

Besides, an FIR has also been lodged against Chauhan and others in this connection and departmental and disciplinary action has been initiated against them.

The Chief Minister had asked the DIG, Kanpur range, to immediately rush to the site, and on the basis of his report, Akhilesh had taken the decision, the statement said.

According to reports, the farmer Kansiram, who owns a few bighas of land in Bhouranda village in Lalitpur district, had been facing threats from some fellow villagers for farming on his own land.

On Saturday, he was summoned by the chowki in-charge to the police station and was advised to desist farming on the said piece of land. When Kansiram refused to obey the chowki in-charge, he was allegedly beaten up mercilessly and also made to drink urine in the police station.
