Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will seek Rs 1,000 crores from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately provide relief to farmers suffering losses due to untimely rains and hailstorm.
State Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan had asked for immediate release of Rs 1,000 crores last week when the central team visited the state to assess the losses and the chief minister will now make a request to the prime minister in this regard, an official statement issued here today said.
So far, 41 have died in the rains and hailstorm in the state and a relief worth Rs 2.20 crores have been extended to the bereaved families, the release said, adding, till date, relief worth Rs 308 crores have been distributed among 7.73 lakh farmers, hit by the calamity.
The release said that as per the earlier norm of assessing losses on the basis of 50 per cent loss to crop, 44 districts of the state were affected, and with the new norm of 33 per cent, 11 more districts are affected, it added.
