UP CM writes letter to Jaitley for more state funds

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has requested the Centre for releasing more funds to the state for speedy maintenance and widening of national and state highways.

In a letter to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely, CM Akhilesh has said that of 7,600 kilometres length of the national highways in the state, 3,600 kilometres is being maintained by state PWD and financed by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), an official spokesman said.

The Chief Minister stated that while the funds being received by the centre was declining, the cost of maintenance is increasing every year.

In another letter to the Finance Minister, the CM has also requesting a grant to the tune of Rs 758.31 for restructuring 16 district cooperative banks in the state.
