Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to start an airline service from Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Babatpur in Varanasi.

"The chief minister has written a letter to the prime minister in this regard," an official spokesman here said.

Attaching a letter of general secretary of SP's Andaman unit, S P Shukla, the chief minister said that around 35,000 families reside in Andaman, whose families were connected with UP.

He said as there was no direct flight for Babatpur problems were being faced by passengers.

Akhilesh has also requested for stoppage of Kolkata-Delhi flights at Babatpur, saying it would facilitate tourists and residents of UP residing in Andaman.

Akhilesh said that Varanasi was a tourist place where a large number of domestic and international tourists come every year.
