An FIR has been lodged against Congress MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh and 10 others on various charges of attempt to murder and dacoity, police said here today.

"An FIR has been lodged against MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh and 10 unidentified persons on charges of attempt to murder, dacoity under relevant sections of the IPC," Superintendent of Police Mohit Gupta said.

The FIR has been registered in connection with a brawl during the inauguration of a road in Kurauli Dama village yesterday, he said.

During the programme, Rajesh alias Nankau, brother of zilla panchayat member Rajendra Prasad, who was also in attendance, objected to the fact that his brother's name was not mentioned on the plaque, the SP said.

Rajesh was allegedly beaten up by security guards of the MLC, he said.

This reportedly infuriated the villagers who attacked the MLC's entourage. While Singh managed to escape unhurt, some vehicles in the convoy were damaged, Gupta said.

On Rajesh's complaint, an FIR was lodged against the MLC and 10 other unidentified persons, the SP said.

Later, the MLC's representative Ram Sughar Singh also lodged a written complaint, saying that Congress workers were injured in the incident. MLC Singh met the district magistrate and demanded an independent inquiry.
