Aiming to regain lost ground in Uttar Pradesh, the state unit of Congress has decided to adopt agitational mode and will be holding demonstrations against the central and the state governments on March 12.
The party also plans to organise 'padyatras' in Varanasi, the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Etawah, the home district of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh.
"Partymen will hold protests all over the state by stalling rail and road traffic on March 12 against the anti- people's policies of the central government and the dismal law and order under the Samajwadi Party government," Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Nirmal Khatri said.
"In a meeting of the district unit chiefs and senior leaders held earlier, it was decided that the party should adopt agitational means after which this decision has been taken," Khatri said.
The UPCC president said that he will also lead padyatras in Varanasi and Etawah. "The dates for these padyatras will however be decided later," he said.
"Through the protest on March 12, the party will highlight as to how the central government has failed to fulfil its promises besides burdening the people by hiking the rail fares and the excise duty on petroleum products in the past four months, he said.
The party will also highlight the dismal state of affairs in the state under the SP government, especially on the law and order front, he said.
"Congress will make the people aware as to how the M-factor (Modi, Mulayam and Mayawati) was responsible for all the problems faced by the state," he said.
When asked whether stalling the movement of trains and disrupting traffic on National Highways will not pose problems to the public and in turn create difficulties for the party, Khatri said that protesters will ensure that people faced minimum problems.
