UP: Criminal carrying cash reward of Rs 25,000 killed in encounter

A criminal carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000 was killed in a police encounter in Baghpat district on Thursday, police said.

In a statement, the Uttar Pradesh Police said, "On Thursday early morning, a police team was conducting checks at Mubarikpur Road in Baghpat, when criminals started firing on them with the intention to kill them."

"A bullet hit the bullet-proof jacket of Khekda Police Station in-charge Ajay Sharma and constable Ajit Chaudhary. In retaliation, police fired and reward-carrying criminal Sandeep Kumar Sansi was injured, while another criminal managed to escape," it added.

The injured criminal was taken to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead, police said, adding that a pistol was recovered from him.

 

Nearly 15 cases were registered against the criminal, the statement said.
