In view of the recent attacks on journalists in the state, DGP A K Jain today issued directives to senior officials and district police chiefs asking them to ensure a safe working environment for the scribes.
"Press is an important pillar of democracy. The DGP has issued directives to senior police officers and district police chiefs to hold meetings in coordination with DMs and district information officers inviting journalists and solve their problems," IG (law and order) A Satish Ganesh said.
He said the DGP has asked for a work plan to be prepared and an atmosphere be developed so as to allow journalists work in a safe and secure manner.

The DGP has also said help from journalists should be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur, the IG said, adding that a work plan and an atmosphere be prepared to allow the scribes to work in a safe and secure manner.
There had been cases of attack on journalists in Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit and some other parts of the state in the recent past.
