The Centre has given go ahead to the Uttar Pradesh to use upto five hectares of forest land in three naxal affected districts for developmental purposes and to establish police stations or posts.

"The Centre has given a go ahead to transfer upto five hectares of forest land for 13 purposes, including setting up of watch towers, drinking water, schools, telephone lines, non-conventional energy sources, vocational training centres and minor irrigation canals," IG law and order RK Vishwakarma told reporters here.

He said that the go ahead has been given for three naxal affected districts, Sonebhadra, Mirzapur and Chandauli.

After this approval, decks have been cleared to set-up 25 police station/outposts in these three districts, he said.

"Though money was available, work for setting up police stations/outposts could not be started for lack of permission to use forest land," he added.
