UP govt approves new film policy to attract filmmakers

In a bid to promote film production in Uttar Pradesh, the government has decided to provide Rs one crore if 50 percent of a film's shoot takes place in the state besides other such attractive offers under a modified policy.

Previously, a sum of Rs one crore was given on shooting of 75 per cent of the film in the state.

"The film policy of the state has been made more attractive with addition of new features. And, the same was given approval by the state cabinet meet which was chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav here," Principal Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal told reporters.
 

"If more than 50 per cent of the film is shot in the state the grant of Rs 2 crore will be given," he added.

He said Rs 2 crore will be given if the producer shot his second film in the state and the amount will rise to Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 2.75 crore for shooting of third and fourth film respectively.

For more than four films, the amount will be Rs three crore, Sehgal added.

"This grant will be up to 25 per cent of the total cost for Hindi films and up to 50 per cent of the cost of Bhojpuri, Brij, Bundeli and Awadhi films," he added.

As per the film policy, if five main actors of the film were from the state, Rs 25 lakh additional amount will be given to producers and the amount will rise to Rs 50 lakhs, if all the actors hailed from UP, Sehgal said.

He said that if a film producer make a film on the state's culture, tourism centres and heritage as its theme, Rs 50 lakh additional grant will be given to him.

"If post-production work of film was also done in UP, Rs 50 lakh additional grant of the total cost will also be given," Sehgal said.

The state government has also decided to provide Rs 50 lakh to establish film institutes in the state except in Noida and Greater Noida.
