State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Azam Khan while replying to an adjournment notice by Pramod Tewari (Congress) said that the houses gutted in the arson would be reconstructed.
Terming the incident as a serious one, Khan said that government has already announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to those whose houses were gutted.
The minister said that the incident was indicative of the misrule of the past five years. "A compensation of Rs five lakh has already been announced to the family of the rape victim," Khan said.
Earlier, Tewari said the arson on June 23 took place as a result of laxity in lodging FIR in the gangrape that took place on June 20 and it should be probed as to why it was not registered by the local police.
Demanding a judicial probe into the incident, he said that those responsible for the crime should be identified.
Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya demanded transfer of the personnel of the concerned police station.
The state government has already suspended the district magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Pratapgarh in this connection.
