UP govt confirms invoking of NSA against Saharanpur clash

The Uttar Pradesh government has confirmed invoking of National Security Act (NSA) against the main accused in the Saharanpur communal clashes of July, a senior government official said here today.

The state government has confirmed invoking of NSA against Moharram Ali alias Pappu, the main accused in the Saharanpur violence, for a period of one year with effect from September 19, Secretary (Home) Rajiv Agarwal told reporters.

Moharram Ali was arrested on July 30 under NSA in connection with communal clashes in Kutubsher area of Saharanpur district on July 26.

Along with Pappu, who is a former councillor, five others-- Mohammed Irshad, Danish, Mohammed Abid, Mohammed Sahid and Haji Mohammed Irfan--were arrested.
 

The clashes took place between two communities over a land dispute. Three persons were killed and several injured.
