"As per guidelines of infrastructure department, four independent valuers were used to determine expected price of the 21 sugar mills after which they were sold", the government said in reply to a question raised by SP member Ravidas Malhotra in the Assembly.

Malhotra asked whether an inquiry would be made if irregularties were made in sale of sugar mills, the government said, "question does not arise".

The SP leaders had been alleging large scale irregularities were made in sale of 21 sugar mills by the previous BSP government before assuming power in elections.

The reply came as a relief to the BSP, which was under fire from political parties for selling sugar mills at throwaway prices to private parties.
