In an apparent bid to woo rural voters before the state Assembly polls, SP-led Uttar Pradesh government today hiked the honorarium of village heads by Rs 1,000 per month.
The honorarium of village heads has been increased to Rs 3,500 per month from existing Rs 2,500, Panchyati Raj minister Ramgovind Chowdhury told reporters here.
The contingency fund of village heads has been increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 1,000 while travel and other expenses have been increased to Rs 15,000 from existing Rs 5,000, he said.
In addition to this, Gramsabha has been given rights for technical, administrative, financial approval for projects upto Rs 2 lakh, the minister added.
