The Uttar Pradesh government has released Rs 112 crore for Mathura as the first instalment of the money which is to be distributed by way of compensation to farmers in the district whose crops have been damaged by the unseasonal rain and hailstorm.
"Of the Rs 331 crore sought by the district administration from the Chief Minister, 112 crore has been released as the first instalment. More fund would come," said Principal Secretary (Revenue), Suresh Chandra.
Chandra said that action would be taken against a Lekhpal who allegedly failed to properly assess the actual loss suffered by farmers in Bansai village in the Raya block.

District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar has, meanwhile, ordered departmental action against Lekhpal Jay Prakash.
Kumar, earlier, went to the hailstorm affected areas in four tehsils and also ordered fresh assessment of the loss at Bansai.
