UP govt says inquiry underway into backward region scheme

The information was given to the state Legislative Council as part of a reply to a question raised by BJP member Hriday Narain Dixit on whether an inquiry and physical verification would be done in Unnao district keeping in view large-scale misuse of the funds.

Panchayati Raj Minister Balram Yadav said that under the BRGF scheme while Rs 630.16 crore was received in the financial year 2010-11, Centre gave Rs 540.81 crore in fiscal 2011-12.

He said that while cent per cent amount was spent in 34 districts in 2010-11, 60 per cent fund was utilised in 29 districts in 2011-12.

 

The minister said that in March this year project management unit BRGF constituted 19 teams headed by divisional deputy directors and state level monitors, which were carrying out physical verification of the works executed under the scheme.

The minister said that information regarding misuse of fund was received after which an inquiry was being conducted.

Yadav said that initially serious irregularities have been detected and 23 schemes were found to be below norms.
