UP govt seeks Rs 1,261 crore from Centre for drought-hit

Uttar Pradesh government today sought from the Centre Rs 1,261 crore for regions, including Bundelkhand, affected by drought and crop loss.

"Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan has requested the central team to accept a memorandum of Rs 1,261 crore sent by the state for regions, including Bundelkhand, affected by crop loss," an official spokesman said here.

He informed the team that free foodgrain was being provided to families in drought-affected areas for the next four months.

The central team is on a three-day visit to affected families.
