UP govt seeks withdrawl of case against state min

Uttar Pradesh government has filed an application in a court here seeking withdrawl of a case of violation of Model Code of Conduct against a state minister, during the 2007 assembly polls.

According to official sources here, law department of the state government is seeking to withdraw the case filed against Urban Development Minister Chitranjan Swarup in 2007, pending in a local court here.

The prosecution has filed an application urging the court to withdraw the case. The court would consider the application, sources said.

A case was registered against SP candidate Swarup for violating the Model Code of Conduct in Muzaffarnagar constituency in Sikhera police station of the district in 2007.
 

Swarup, who contested elections from Muzaffarnagar constituency during assembly polls in 2007 was charged for putting up pamphlets on government buildings without permission.
