Uttar Pradesh Government should carry out the investigation into the murder of Shahjahanpur- based journalist Jagendra Singh "in a fair and unbiased manner", Union Minister Kalraj Mishra said today.
Addressing a two-day conference of the National Union of Journalists (India), which concluded at Sarnath here today, Mishra said, "The UP government should carry out the investigation into the journalist murder in a fair and unbiased manner. But unfortunately it is not being done, the government is trying to save its minister."
Various issues regarding the problems being faced by journalists were discussed at the event which was also attended by Uttar Pradesh cabinet ministers Om Prakash Singh, Narad Rai and Paras Nath Singh among others.

Mishra said an act should be enacted for the protection of journalists as attacks on them are on the rise in northeast India and Naxalism-hit states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. He assured NUJI members to take up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On implementation of the Wage Board recommendations, the Union minister said, "I will do my best to ensure that the recommendations are properly implemented so that journalists feel fully protected and continue to write fearlessly and in an unbiased manner.
