UP govt suspends Fatehgarh Jail superintendent

The Uttar Pradesh government today suspended Fatehgarh Jail superintendent in connection with a brawl that occurred in jail after the death of an inmate two weeks ago.

Kailash Chandra has been suspended in connection with the May 17 incident, Deputy Inspector General, Jail Sharad Kulshresth told reporters here.

Earlier, on May 20 jailer Suresh Chandra Mishra and deputy jailer Rajesh Rai were suspended while nine prison guards were transferred.

On May 17, prisoners and jail staff clashed in jail premises, angry over the death of an inmate apparently due to absence of medical aid

A prisoner fell ill seriously inside jail premises and died, police sources had said, adding the inmates alleged he died due to absence of medical aid.
