UP govt to constitute committee for journalists

Uttar Pradesh government has decided to constitute a committee to resolve problems being faced by journalists in their work area, including security for them during coverage of events, officials said.

The committee, to be headed by Principal Secretary (Home), would include principal secretaries of Information, Housing and Urban Development, Medical and Health, Transport, Director General of Police, Estate Officer besides three members from print and two from electronic media, a Home Department spokesman here said.

Director Information would be the member secretary of the committee, said the order issued by Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan.

Welcoming the decision, Secretary of UP Accredited Correspondents Committee, Siddharth Kalhans said that the committee would address the problems of journalists related to housing, transport and other issues.
 

Kalhans said that it would also consider complaints relating to harassment of the media-persons at district level.
