Reiterating its resolve on the law and order front, the Uttar Pradesh government today said that it had inherited the state in a dismal condition and it will take a while before the situation changes.

"The situation in the state was spoiled by giving patronage to criminals during the previous regime...It cannot be improved in a day or a month...It will take a while to improve the situation and the Yogi government is committed to bring a change," Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Khanna told the state Assembly while speaking on the budget of Home department.

Giving details of the various cases of crime that have been worked out, he called it an achievement of the government.

Citing figures, Khanna claimed that crime had come down in the state and was lower than many other states. He said 100 per cent FIRs were now being lodged as the government did not believe in hiding crime.

He claimed that the situation was fast changing under the Yogi Adityanath government's adding that no complainant will now be arrested when they go to get their cases registered.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also holds the Home portfolio, will speak on the budget in the House tomorrow.
