UP land grab: 2 booked for stealing seized sugarcane crops

Two persons have been booked for allegedly stealing seized sugarcane crops from encroached land of Hastinapur sanctuary at Dharampur village in the district, police said today.

A case has been registered against Rajender and Pramod Kumar for stealing sugarcane crops seized from the encroached government land of Hastinapur sanctuary at Dharampur village under Ramraj police station here yesterday, they said.

A loaded trolley was also recovered from the site, police said, adding that the duo managed to escape when forest officials reached the venue.

Sugarcane crops worth Rs 5 crore were seized by the district authorities from the encroached Hastinapur sanctuary land on November 29 last year.
 

As many as 30 cases have been registered in different police stations against the alleged encroachment of government land in 27 villages of the district.
