In more trouble for suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, UP Lokayukta has recommended registration of an FIR and an inquiry against him by "any agency", including CBI, in disproportionate assets case.

"Lokayukta N K Mehrotra has sent his report to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (home) and Principal Secretry (Vigilance)," an officer said.

He said that while recommending registration of an FIR against Thakur, Mehrotra has suggested an inquiry by any agency including CBI or Vigilance.

The Lokayukta had registered a case against Thakur on a complaint filed by an RTI activist against him for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known source of income and misusing official position.

The activist later filed a supplementary complaint against the suspended IPS officer.

Reacting to this, the suspended IPS officer in a statement said that he has been told that "in a completely one-sided inquiry, the Lokayukta has found him guilty of amassing disproportionate asset."

Thakur said that he would not have any problem with CBI inquiry but the state government might find it difficult to hand over the matter to the central agency which will be independent and truthful.

Thakur had moved High Court against Lokayukta probe against him but it was rejected on the ground that the inquiry was already complete.

Thakur, an IG-rank officer, was suspended by the UP government on July 13 on charges of indiscipline.

The decision came a few days after Thakur had lodged a complaint with the police claiming he was threatened by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
