UP minister sent to judicial custody

Uttar Pradesh state minister Laxmikant alias Pappu Nishad was today sent to 14-day judicial remand in a case lodged in 2006 for allegedly beating a woman.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Gaur denied bail to Nishad, who surrendered in the court, following which he was remanded in judicial custody.

The case was lodged in 2006 against the minister by Chadmati, a resident of Belhar Kala, alleging that he had beaten her and issued life threats to her.

Nishad 's lawyer Krishna Chand Srivastav said the minister had approached the Allahabad High Court, which had ordered him to surrender in the lower court within 15 days.
 

The minister too is a resident of Belhar Kala in Bakhira area.
