Uttar Pradesh minister Ahmed Hasan today warned of stern action against doctors with "lax" attitude towards duty or those indulging in private practice.

"Strong action would be taken against doctors with lax attitude if there is no improvement in their works or those indulging in private practice. They can even be dismissed," the state Health Minister said here.

He, however, said that doctors who are carrying out their duties properly would be rewarded, he added.

Hasan, who visited the district hospital, women hospital, emergency ward and encephalitis wards of BRD Medical College here, said he has taken a strong note of the complaint lodged by patients and family members about the functioning of some doctors.

Stressing on creating public awareness to check the spread of encephalitis effectively, he said, there has been a check in deaths caused by it but there is no let up in those caused by the water borne variant.
