District coordinator of the scheme, Rituraj Singh, sustained serious head injuries after being attacked by some masked men, armed with iron rods and knives, in his office.
The official had detected irregularities in implementation of the flagship scheme in one of the primary schools in the district, police said.
Singh was rushed to the district hospital from where he was referred to Varanasi.
A case has been filed against principal Sanjay Pathak and some unknown persons and further probe into the matter is on, police added.
