Directives have been issued by the Uttar Pradesh government to district police chiefs to maintain strict vigil on the occasion of Barawafat festival.
"All the district magistrates and police chiefs have been directed to maintain utmost vigil in view of Barawafat," IG, Law and Order, A Satish Ganesh told newspersons here.
As many as 75 processions (julus-e-mohammadi) will be taken out across the state on January 3 and 2,488 processions on January 4, he said.

For ensuring security and maintaining law and order, district police chiefs have been asked to ensure that no new tradition should be started as far as route of the procession is concerned, the IG said.
"Flag marches should be taken out in sensitive areas prior to the procession besides deploying adequate number of force," he added.
