Within a month after a courier company van was robbed of gold worth crores of rupees and its driver was shot dead, Uttar Pradesh police today claimed to have cracked the case with the arrest of three persons.

ADG (law and order) Daljeet Chaudhary said that three persons -- Jeevan Kumar, Amit Singh and Madhukar Pandey -- were arrested here and gold ornaments worth Rs 20 lakhs were found from their possession.

The jeep used in the crime was also recovered from their possession, the ADG said adding that all the three accused, who hailed from Lucknow, had no criminal record.

Efforts were on to arrest the remaining eight accused, including the main culprit, with STF searching them in Haryana among other places.

According to the video footage, four persons in a jeep and one on a motorcycle had fired at the van driver and divided the looted valuables in a nearby field before fleeing, the ADG said.

Investigations are on and there are possibilities that someone from the company was involved in the crime, the ADG pointed out.

On the night of August 28, the courier van belonging to Sequel Logistic Private Limited, Ahmadabad was on its way to Lucknow when it was intercepted near FI Medical and Research Centre in Sohramau area of Unnao.

They fired at the driver, Harichand Yadav (30), and security guard who offered resistance and looted gold biscuits and jewellery before fleeing.
