UP poster violence: Police put up hoardings of absconders

Around two months after violent clashes broke out between two communities over alleged desecration of a religious poster here, the police has put up hoardings of the main accused in the case at Fazalpur area here.

According to Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur, the hoardings contain names and photographs of the 30 main accused as well as contact details of the police.

We are also offering reward to those who will give us the information about these absconding accused, he said.

Tension had gripped several parts of the district when members of a community accused another community of "desecration" of a religious poster which was allegedly found torn in Darshanpurwa area under Fazalganj police station on October 24.
 

Following this, an angry mob had taken to firing, stone-pelting and torching of vehicles in a dozen areas falling under four police stations .

Two police inspectors were injured in the firing and police had booked 1,000, 800, 600 and 150 unidentified people at Chamanganj, Sisamau, Fazalganj and Naubasta police stations of the district respectively, under various relevant sections of the IPC.

"34 people have been arrested in the case till now, out of which, we have initiated proceedings against 10 under National Security Act (NSA)," Mathur said.
