Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said the state government will help potato farmers get training from Dutch scientists to increase production and mitigate losses.

"An agreement between Chandrashekhar Azad Agriculture University Kanpur and Dutch cluster was signed on September 20 for increasing potato production, mitigating losses, storage, processing and also facilitating upgraded techniques," the Chief Minister said after inaugurating the two-day workshop for farmers here.

The Chief Minister said his government has been trying to strike a direct dialogue with farmers and it was the result of this endeavour that scientists from Netherlands are in their midst today.

Stressing that he has always made efforts for increasing potato production and prosperity of farmers, he said Uttar Pradesh produces 34 per cent of the potato grown in the country.

The state government is prepared for helping farmers and for this it is ready to get them training from scientists from Netherlands or any other country, he said, adding that Kannauj would be developed as the centre for potato production.

About 200 farmers from Kanpur, Aligarh and Agra divisions are taking part in the workshop in which they would be imparted the know-how for improving production and income.
