The District Consumer Redressal Forum has imposed a fine of Rs 17 lakh on Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation for not providing a sanctioned transformer for a tubewell to a farmer in Shamli district.

DCRF Chairman S K Yadav passed the order yesterday on the complaint of Vipin Kumar, who had alleged that the absence of the transformer had led to loss in crop production.

The forum has imposed the fine on the power corporation and made the Superintendent Engineer, the Executive Engineer and the Sub-Divisional officer party to the case. It was found that it did not provide the transformer despite it being sanctioned, Yadav said.

The forum has ordered the fine will be paid within a month, he said.

Kumar in his complaint had said the transformer had been sanctioned for his tubewell on May 28, 2010, but due to its absence his crop production was hit.
