Prohibitory orders were imposed in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district in the wake of widespread violence in Haryana triggered by the conviction of self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case today.
The prohibitory orders, under section 144 of the CrPC, have been enforced till October 31 to ensure that law and order in the district is not disturbed, Additional District Magistrate of Shamli Shiv Bahadur Singh said.
Section 144 prohibits assembly of five or more people in one place.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Muzaffarnagar, district authorities said officials have been asked to effectively implement the prohibitory orders, which have been in place since July.
